I called Wells Fargo for an appointment. One of the issues was our recent stimulus check had both my wife's and my name on it. The drive up teller wouldn't deposit it since I was by myself. So I made an appointment to go inside. Also, my late wife (who passed away 10 years ago) was still listed on my account - as is my son who lives about 400 miles away. I was told I needed to bring in "a copy of my wife's death certificate" to delete her from my account - although I know this was done years ago.
So my new wife and I arrived at the bank and we were told she wasn't listed on my account. Once again, I know she signed a signature card at another WF branch about a year ago. So we couldn't deposit the check. Also, I presented the "copy of the death certificate" to delete my late wife and was told that I needed to present an "original" not a copy of the death certificate. In addition, I couldn't add my current wife to my account becase "all of the parties have to be present" - in other words, My son would have to drive 400 miles each way AND my late wife would have to rise from the grave to add my current wife to the account. The WF employee kept saying "all the parties needed to be present to change the account" even though I kept telling her my late wife passed away 10 years before (as per the "copy" of the death certificate.
Finally we resolved the issue by cashing the check in full and then making the deposit using the cash proceeds. So, as a result, my late wife - who didn't rise from the grave is still on my account and my living, breathing wife is not. Totally absurd.
