History Of Northway Bank
Northway Bank, originally established as Berlin City National Bank in 1934, has undergone several significant changes throughout its history. On April 30, 1974, the institution transitioned to a state-chartered bank and withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System, subsequently changing its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The bank expanded its operations by acquiring City Savings Bank of Berlin on the same date and later acquired Peoples National Bank of Groveton on October 1, 1981. In 2005, Northway Bank continued its growth strategy by acquiring The Pemigewasset National Bank of Plymouth, after which it officially changed its name to Northway Bank. Notably, the bank changed its trust powers to none on December 31, 1987.
