History Of American Bank of Huntsville
American Bank of Huntsville was originally established as Dorsey Building and Loan Association on October 21, 1920. Over the decades, the institution underwent several name changes and relocations. In 1987, it was renamed First Security Savings Association, which was later changed to First Security Federal Savings Bank in 1989. The bank continued to evolve, adopting the name Approved Federal Savings Bank in 1997, and subsequently transitioned to Franklin Security Bank, FSB in March 2004. In June 2004, the bank's main office was moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, marking another geographical shift. In June 2007, the institution rebranded as Worthington Federal Bank, and in August 2014, it was named American Bank of Huntsville. Regulatory oversight transitioned to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in July 2011. The bank's main office moved to Huntsville, Alabama, on October 13, 2009. Ultimately, American Bank of Huntsville voluntarily closed and liquidated its assets on September 30, 2016.
