History Of Commerce Bank

Commerce Bank is a financial institution established on February 21, 1984, originally known as The Lenexa National Bank. It rebranded to Commerce Bank, National Association, on January 1, 1993, and began expanding through a series of acquisitions across various states. Significant milestones include the acquisition of The Twin-City State Bank in Kansas City, Kansas, on November 19, 1994, and the main office relocation to 1000 Walnut Street in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 1, 1995. The bank continued its growth by acquiring multiple smaller banks, notably including the Commerce Bank in Lawrence, Kansas, and several others in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma throughout the 1990s and 2000s. On June 29, 2011, the institution changed its name to Commerce Bank and transitioned to a State Chartered Bank under the Federal Reserve System. The bank's main office moved again on June 22, 2020, to 1001 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri. When they were small and new, I loved Commerce. In the last few years, the customer service has gone down tremendously. My debit card expired in October of 2025 and they have yet to issue me a new one. Every experience with them in the last few years has been awful, including trying to close an account. The call center for the Loan Department is lacking. I work in customer service and I understand the struggles of dealing with the public, but this department has been absolutely terrible. I have talked to almost, if not all representatives in this department & they are all purposely giving me the run around & have been for a month and half. We have an account under the family name to make deposits only. Called customer service twice within an hour span. The first one left me on hold for 45 minutes. I called back and spoke with Ilene from Troost Branch she hung up the phone on me while trying to explain my situation.
