I was laid off and, therefore, unable to keep up with the direct deposit requirement into my checking account. I had forgotten about this "feature" until I checked my account and saw that they had charged me a service fee of $8. I called, and they basically said, "Too bad," so I walked into the branch and explained the situation. They refused to refund the $8 unless I opened a different type of checking account with a $1000 minimum balance and no direct deposit requirement. I opted to close the account instead. The teller was having trouble figuring out how to print a check for my account balance and I said that I wish I could charge them $8 to train their people. Well, this was too much for the bank manager, who strutted out of his tiny office and ordered me to go sit down in the waiting area. Thanks for kicking members of the community while they're down, Community Banks of Colorado. Or should I say NBH Bank? That's right, this is not a local bank (NYSE: NBHC).
