Originally named Woodforest National Bank, it commenced operations in Texas and gradually expanded its presence through acquisitions and relocations. In April 1986, it acquired the Bank of Woodforest in Houston, Texas, and simultaneously moved its main office to 13301 East Freeway Drive, Houston, Texas. The bank continued to grow by acquiring other institutions, including the National Bank of Conroe in Conroe, Texas, in July 1995, and Highlands Bank in Highlands, Texas, in April 1999. On September 2, 2008, the bank's main office was relocated to 1330 Lake Robbins Drive, The Woodlands, Texas. Most recently, on May 1, 2011, Woodforest National Bank acquired Woodforest Bank in Refugio, Texas.
